Why is the American Flag Upside-Down?

If you have ever seen an upside down American flag there is a reason. It is not necessarily meant to be disrespectful to our nation. There is a much deeper meaning to this. Generally, someone that has served in the US Military would understand and recognize this symbol. The average citizen may just take offense to it thinking the flag bearer is disrespecting America. Based on the United States Flag code:

Always Show Respect for the American Flag

  • The American Flag should never be displayed with the Union down, except as a SIGNAL OF DIRE DISTRESS IN INSTANCES OF EXTREME DANGER TO LIFE OR PROPERTY.

So where are we as Americans today?

At what point do we show the “signal?”

At what point are we in EXTREME DANGER?

Does that start at the loss of Free Speech?

Does it start at the loss of your Second Amendment being taken away?

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

-Martin Niemöller  (Germany – 1944)
